Moving Nokia 6210 Navigator contacts to iPhone

Just got myself a brand new iPhone 3GS today and spend a while googling on how to move the contacts from my Nokia 6210 Navigator to the iPhone. I have a lot of extra info on my contacts so moving them using the SIM card would’ve been the last resort.

I found a lot of talk about using iSync, but it doesn’t seem to support my Nokia without some additional plugins which would’ve costed 12 euros or so. Well, finally I gave up on googling and started to poke around and found a fairly simple way to move the contacts. Here’s instructions on how to do it using a Mac OS X computer.

  1. Back up the contacts on the Nokia phone to the memory card. Go to Contacts, click Options -> Mark/Unmark -> Mark All. Then click Options -> Create backup -> Phone to memory card.

  2. Use BlueTooth or a data cable to copy the backup files to the Mac. The files are located at \Other\Contacts\ on the memory card.

  3. Import the contacts to Mac’s Address Book. File -> Import -> vCards…, select all *.vcf files and import them.

  4. Plug the iPhone to the Mac and check the Info tab from iTunes under the iPhone device. Check Sync Address book contacts and click Apply button.

  5. Profit.
